Just finished reading your novel Harry and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We can only imagine what the lives of regular folk were like back and you paint a great picture of it. I’m sure it wasn’t far from the truth…. funny also how that societal hierarchy, land ownership of manors and estates has changed very little in the last 500-1000 years! I also come from North Yorkshire and am fascinated by the characteristics of many, especially the most rural and farming types which are still very close to thos of Scaninavia such as ponderousness, a straightforward, fair approach to all pride without arrogance and the use of a few a words as possible to say what you want…lots of food for thought in your work…thank you! Hello, Mark. Thank you for those thoughts – such comment means a great deal to a writer. You have put your finger on those rural and increasingly rare characteristics – they are traits that I delight to be near and I hope the world keeps them close to its heart.
I have a short story called ‘The Cowshed Wall’ in collection that touches on those qualities.
